Job summary

The University of Utah NRH Outpatient Clinic seeks a Nurse Practitioner to provide care in the Craig H. Nielsen Rehabilitation Hospital outpatient service, with emphasis on spinal cord injury and complex patients.

You will work under a PM&R physician, take histories, perform exams, order tests, develop treatment plans, counsel patients and families, and participate in continuing medical education and quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Utah NP licensure required.
• Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent; NP certification required.
• Utah prescriptive privileges may be required.
• ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS certifications may be required by department.

Responsibilities

• Evaluation and treatment in outpatient rehab service.
• Work under supervision of a PM&R physician.
• Take complex medical histories for consultations.
• Order consultations and interact with other specialty teams.
• Perform physical examinations on new and return patients.
• Order laboratory tests, x-rays, and other imaging.
• Monitor dosages and adjust medications.
• Order and supervise administration of physical therapy.
• Reach tentative diagnoses and develop treatment plans with attending physician.
• Counsel patients and families about health and wellness.
• Participate in continuing medical education and quality improvement activities.
• May assist in research projects and committee functions.
• Coverage of other APC team members as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Candidate must be able todemonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide careappropriate to patients being seen in the outpatient clinic at theCraig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation hospital. Primary assigned rehabpatient population will be Spinal Cord Injury and complex patients,with ability to cover as needed. The individual must demonstrateknowledge and the ability to assess data regarding the patient'sstatus and provide care as described above.

Responsibilities

• Evaluation and treatment inoutpatient rehab service.
• Will work closely with, and under thesupervision of, a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R)physician.
• Take complex medical histories on patients forconsultation by academic and community physicians.
• Orderconsultations and interact with members of other specialty medicalteams.
• Perform physical examinations on new and returnpatients.
• Order laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studiesand other diagnostic procedures.
• Monitor dosages and adjustmedications.
• Order and supervise the administration of physicaltherapy.
• Reach tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and otherconditions.
• Develop treatment plans in conjunction withattending physician to provide optimal patient medicalmanagement.
• Counsel patients and families about health wellness,illness and maintenance.
• Participate in continuing medicaleducation to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs,boards and conferences.
• Willingness to participate in qualityimprovement activities.
• May assist in research projects, specialprojects and committee functions.
• Coverage of other APC teammembers, as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State ofUtah.

Preferred

• Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by yourdepartment or by privileging criteria.
• Utah State prescriptive privileges.
• Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing orequivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is currentlicensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certificationwhich requires the successful completion of a nationally accreditedexamination.
• UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
• This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associatedrequirements.
