Job Summary – About The Role

Deliver high-quality recreation services for residents, visitors, and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.

Required: Minimum age of 16 years. Knowledge of positive leadership techniques, children’s activities, games, developmental learning progressions, and discipline techniques. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain within 30 days of hire. Maintain DCFS mandated reporter certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Preferred: High School diploma and/or courses in Early Childhood Education. At least one year working with children in nursery or daycare settings.

Essential Functions of the Position
  • Follow safety rules and support the District’s safety and risk management programs.
  • Collaborate with residents, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Suggest improvements for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Comply with policies and procedures.
Responsibilities

Under supervision, complete assigned duties, suggest improvements, and prioritize community and District interests. Key abilities include:

  • Work positively with children and infants.
  • Lead small groups.
  • Represent the District effectively.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise child care activities.
  • Communicate clearly.
  • Handle problems respectfully and maturely.
  • Work in unstructured settings with enthusiasm and creativity.
  • Follow protocols and policies.
  • Apply positive discipline techniques.
  • Ensure safety by following procedures and observing children.
  • Perform first aid, CPR, and emergency responses.
  • Attend required trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

Positions involve frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, standing, and lifting 1-20 lbs. Requires good hearing and vision, with or without accommodations.
