Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking an NPI Buyer to lead procurement for new product introductions, interfacing with Engineering, Program Management, Operations, Quality and Suppliers to ensure readiness, cost competitiveness and on-time launches.

Embedded in cross-functional teams, this role drives sourcing strategy, supplier selection, RFQ management, launch readiness and PPAP, contributing to accelerated time-to-market while meeting quality, cost and sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience.
• Experience supporting product launches or new product development programs.
• Experience working with suppliers in technical or manufacturing environments.
• Experience in automotive, HVAC, industrial equipment, electronics, or aerospace sectors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate as the Procurement representative on NPI program teams.
• Support product development from concept through production launch.
• Drive procurement activities through stage-gate milestones.
• Ensure sourcing timelines align with engineering and launch schedules.
• Support Engineering Change Notices and product revisions during development.
• Identify suppliers and lead RFQ/RFP processes for prototypes and production.
• Analyze quotations and negotiate terms; develop sourcing recommendations.
• Collaborate with Category Managers to align NPI sourcing with long-term strategies.
• Assess supplier readiness and coordinate APQP and launch activities with a supplier development team.
• Track tooling, PPAP approvals, first article inspections, and qualification milestones.
• Maintain supplier readiness reviews and escalate launch risks as needed.
• Develop should-cost/target-cost analyses; support VE/VA initiatives.
• Monitor cost performance and support program financial reviews.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities early in product development.
• Identify supply chain risks and develop mitigation plans for launch-critical components.
• Drive dual-source strategies and communicate risks to leadership.
