Position Overview

This full-time, onsite NPI Buyer position involves collaborating across multiple departments, planning, scheduling, and monitoring the movement of materials through pre-production to early production lifecycle to determine required material purchases. Responsibilities include obtaining materials using engineering and production schedules, maintaining inventory levels, resolving discrepancies, evaluating supplier reliability, and developing new supply sources. The role requires building positive relationships with suppliers to improve quality, costs, and service, while ensuring compliance with DOD certifications. The position will act as a lead for our Defense Systems business in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Determine material requirements, source, negotiate, and execute awards for direct and indirect materials, and capital equipment.
  • Monitor new requirements, support production schedules, evaluate programs, and communicate impacts.
  • Obtain quotations, expedite orders, negotiate complex awards, and manage procurement processes.
  • Interface with suppliers and internal teams, produce status reports, and manage purchase orders and contracts.
  • Identify and establish supplier relationships, participate in supplier evaluations, and maintain accurate system data.
  • Participate in safety, Lean/Six Sigma activities, and support KPI reporting.
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Five (5) years of purchasing experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP).
  • Experience with vendors across electronics, PWB, and machined parts.
  • Knowledge of PLM systems like Agile.

Preferred:

  • Cost reduction, strategic sourcing, or total cost of ownership experience.
  • Experience in early-stage engineering projects or product transfers.
  • Certifications such as CPM, CPIM, or ISM membership.

Salary Range: $64,173 - $117,537 annually in San Diego. Benefits include health insurance, 401K, paid holidays, and more.
