Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage a team of prototype operators, providing guidance, training, and oversight for daily operations.
  • Operate and maintain prototype machinery, including CNC machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and designers to interpret prototype specifications, offering input on manufacturability and process improvements.
  • Oversee the setup and calibration of equipment to ensure precision, accuracy, and compliance with design standards.
  • Manage the assembly, testing, and modifications of prototypes, ensuring they meet functional and quality requirements.
  • Ensure all prototype iterations, modifications, and test results are well-documented to support continuous improvement and quality control.
  • Enforce compliance with safety protocols, best practices, and quality control procedures in prototype fabrication.
  • Monitor workflow, assign tasks, and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Recommend improvements in materials, techniques, and equipment to enhance prototype production.
  • Identify and resolve production issues to improve efficiency and ensure reliable outcomes.
  • Experience in assembling sheet metal and mechanical components, including fastening, riveting, and applying torque to key components. Proficiency in the use of mechanical tools such as bench drills, drivers, wrenches, grinders, and polishers.
  • Expertise in brazing copper piping for water or refrigerant applications, with solid knowledge of brazing techniques and their applications.
  • Experience in electrical wiring, crimping, routing, and assembly of wire harnesses, with a solid understanding of electrical schematics.
  • Skilled in the application and finishing of various sealants for both indoor and outdoor industrial applications.
  • Experience in handling heavy equipment and components, with proficiency in the use of hoists and lifting devices for assembly tasks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve ergonomics for employees assembling units, ensuring safer and more efficient handling of components. Provide feedback and recommendations to the design team to optimize the assembly process for better ergonomics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training is a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge in CNC machining, 3D printing, and other prototype fabrication methods.
  • Proficient in CAD software and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Proven troubleshooting abilities with experience in maintaining prototype equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and quality control.
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
  • Prior experience in a prototype manufacturing, fabrication, or product development environment is preferred.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience leading teams in prototyping or product development environments.
  • Knowledge of materials used in prototype fabrication, including plastics, metals, and composites.
  • Familiarity with quality control and testing procedures.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and brazing skillsets are highly preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires occasional travel (up to 25%) within the USA and Mexico to support builds and projects at different Vertiv plants. Travel accommodations will be provided within the country of origin.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift, move, and assemble heavy materials or equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Primarily a manufacturing environment.

TRAVEL TIME REQUIRED
