Qualifications

Job description

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

for a facility that houses individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This comprehensive and unique detention environment requires APPs to have a broad clinical background. The core scope of practice includes but is not limited to family practice, urgent and emergency care, behavioral health care, infectious disease and public health management, and case management.

Qualifications
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors. The degree-granting institution and/or program must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Graduate from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program recognized by an entity acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • One-year full-time equivalent experience in primary care as a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Clinical experience must be current within the past five years.
  • Preferred experience in detention, correctional, or residential healthcare settings (not required).
  • Must hold and maintain an unrestricted, current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in AZ.
  • Must be Board Certified by NCCPA, AANC, or AANP.
Duties
  • Work as part of an integrated healthcare team to provide acute, emergent, and chronic care to patients following IHSC policies, guidance, and accreditation standards as prescribed by ICE/IHSC.
  • Perform comprehensive history and physical evaluations, behavioral health care, and minor outpatient surgical procedures as required.
  • Apply clinical knowledge within documented treatment plans, prescriptions, and provide treatment across the lifespan as appropriate.
  • Order and interpret labs and diagnostics, prescribe medications, refer to specialists, and follow up after hospitalizations or consultations.
  • Participate in court-ordered treatment plans, including psychiatric and life-threatening conditions such as hunger strikes.
  • Provide a full spectrum of age and gender-specific health care, including treatment of gender dysphoria and pregnancy.
  • Consult with physicians, clinical directors, and IHSC consultants as needed for complex cases.
  • Provide infirmary care, including admissions, discharges, and daily monitoring for higher-level care patients.
  • Interpret Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs), manage Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) for tuberculosis.
Hours/Schedule
  • Day shift only; options for 8-hour or 10-hour shifts.
  • 40 hours per week.
