Job summary

Archdiocese of New Orleans Administrative Offices seeks a Director of Accounting to oversee daily accounting operations, ensure GAAP compliance, and provide reliable financial reporting for leadership and the Finance Council.

You will lead a small team, coordinate annual audits, and collaborate with parishes and programs to maintain strong internal controls and transparent financial records for the Archdiocese.

Qualifications

• 5+ years progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility
• Not-for-profit accounting knowledge and GAAP understanding
• Experience with audits, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
• CPA license is required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, billings, and deposit and loan programs
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly close, including review and approval of supporting schedules
• Maintain accounting records in compliance with GAAP and not-for-profit standards
• Lead the annual financial audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
• Prepare financial statements for leadership and the Finance Council
• Support preparation of Form 990(T) and other external reports
• Oversee financial reporting for grants, contracts, and donor-restricted funds
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Collaborate with department heads to ensure financial alignment
