Northwest Youth Corps - Community Wildfire Hitch Crew Member

Participants work on physically demanding Community Wildfire Protection projects in all kinds of weather and terrain, such as creating defensible space around critical infrastructure and fuel reduction. While in session, crews will be responsible for completing wildfire fuel reduction projects.

Our program is a highly structured immersive experience focused on community and personal development. Crew members do not use cell phones or headphones during work hours to foster presence and teamwork.

Daily activities include tool maintenance, debriefs, educational sessions, and group activities to enhance crew functioning. Participants are mentored by their Crew Leader and encouraged to take on leadership roles, including acting as a "leader of the day/week" by the end of the program.

Through these challenging experiences, members develop resilience, discipline, empathy, and professional skills, contributing to resilient communities against Wildfire.

Member Duties :
  • Participate in wildfire fuel reduction projects under Crew Leader supervision.
  • Engage in educational discussions and self-reflection with a Participant Success Plan.
  • Commit to community service and crew responsibilities with safety as a priority.
