Job description

The Northview Preschool Teacher’s primary responsibility is to lead classes, create curriculum, and keep parents updated on their child’s progress. This position is a nonexempt part-time hourly position in the Northview Preschool Ministry and reports to the Northview Preschool Director.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Shows commitment to Cultural Values
  • Updates attendance sheets daily and monthly
  • Maintains student records with accurate and complete information
  • Maintains student files
  • Enforces all administrative policies and rules
  • Helps maintain facility in a safe and satisfactory condition
  • Prepares reports on students and activities as required by administration
  • Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competencies
  • Keeps up on current knowledge in the field of early childhood education
  • Responds to emails and voicemail from parents within 24 hours

Classroom Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates God’s love to children through Bible study and living by example
  • Assimilates arriving children to the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest to them
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates those objectives to children
  • Provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use in learning activities and imaginative play
  • Teaches basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order
  • Reads books to entire classes or small groups
  • Organizes and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling and field trips
  • Attends to children’s basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers
  • Prepares materials and classroom for class activities
  • Teaches proper eating habits
  • Serves snacks and oversees lunch
  • Demonstrates activities to children
  • Arranges indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities and safety
  • Organizes and labels materials and displays student’s work in a manner appropriate for their ages and perceptual skills
  • Confers with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning by following approved curricula
  • Supervises, evaluates and plans for substitutes
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guests or other experiential activities and guides students in learning from those activities

Child Development and Assessments:

  • Observes and evaluates children’s performance, behavior, social development and physical heath
  • Uses assessments to help determine children’s developmental levels, needs, and potential
  • Identifies children showing signs of emotional, developmental or health-related problems and discusses them with supervisors, parents or guardians and child development specialists
  • Meets with parents/guardians to discuss their children’s progress and needs, determines their priorities for their children, and suggests ways that they can promote learning and development through the assessments
  • Prepares and implements remedial programs for students requiring extra help
  • Meets with Director and other staff to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate programs effectiveness
  • Maintains records on each child’s progress and development for curriculum planning
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s varying needs and interests
  • Works with co-teacher to plan and implement the daily program of activities
  • Sets up and maintains a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to optimal growth and development of children
  • Develops a positive relationship with each child and promotes the development of self-esteem and self-discipline
  • Observes each child daily to assess skills, interests and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth
  • Establishes a positive relationship with each child’s family and shares information about the child’s day at the school
  • Helps parents to understand the curriculum and find ways to involve parents in the program
  • Conducts individual parent conferences once a year to discuss each child’s growth and development

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct reports however must always supervise the children in their class

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED plus two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience would be teaching in early childhood education or working/volunteering in children’s ministry.

This position requires CPR certification.
