Crystal Lake School District 47 has an anticipated opening for a School Social Worker, temporarily. The goal of this position is to provide services within the schools that facilitate the growth and development of all students. Responsibilities include providing services to and on behalf of students whose educational and/or psychosocial development is restricted due to social, emotional, and/or behavioral considerations, family circumstances, or environmental problems.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Consult and collaborate with staff and parents about program development, prevention measures, early interventions, and assessment of students’ difficulties, community resources and outside therapies.
- Serve as a contributing member on building and district level teams (i.e., crisis team, problem-solving/RtI teams, student services building teams, grade level teams, PBIS, program team meetings, dept meetings, etc.).
- Complete valid social/emotional adaptive assessments, interpret student information for a variety of learning concerns, and communicate in written and verbal formats student needs in understandable terms for staff and parents.
- Provide individual and/or group counseling with students to help solve problems or develop functional skills related to the learning environment, utilizing different rated goals for student needs.
- Maintain current knowledge of research findings, child development, cultural influences, economic influences, and practices relevant to social work and education.
- Plan and conduct in-service presentations, staff trainings, newsletters for teachers, parents, administrators, or community groups to enhance understanding of and services for children’s educational and social/emotional development.
- Support staff and parents in understanding children’s needs, providing information on child development, or addressing other issues of interest/concern.
- Serve as a liaison between the community and school.
- Maintain familiarity with legal mandates, laws, and ethical standards influencing professional responsibilities.
- Maintain paperwork including goal writing, updates, behavior plans, FBA/BIP’s, social stories, and observations.
- Establish a positive school climate demonstrating respect and rapport with staff, parents/guardians, students, and community stakeholders.
- Assist with referrals and communication with community or private agencies for evaluation, treatment, or services when needed.
- Participate on the building’s crisis intervention team for individual and/or school-wide crises.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills And Experience Required
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License.
- School Social Work endorsement.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years school social work experience preferred.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Fluid report writing ability.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures involving special education law.
- LSW within 2 years of employment.
