Overview

In accordance with education-based athletics, Assistant Coaches will work with Head Coaches to develop an effective coaching program plan which includes skill development, practice planning, supervision of all levels of the sport, focusing on individual and team growth while instilling the highest ideals of character. Assistant Coach will effectively communicate with Head Coach, student-athletes, parents, & administration.

Job Description
  • Terms of Employment: 12-month
  • Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
  • Temporary Position
  • Stipend

Responsibilities include assisting with pre-season meetings, supervising practices and games, ensuring safety and equipment management, promoting sportsmanship, and adhering to policies. The role requires supervising all practice and game activities, maintaining equipment, and supporting team development and discipline.

Qualifications
  • Teachers or certificated professional educators employed by the local Board of Education.
  • Persons certifiable as professional educators by the State Department of Education according to 13A.12.01.
  • Credentialed Coaches meeting the following:
    • Eligible for Maryland certification under COMAR 13A.12.01
    • Possess MPSSAA/MSDE Coaching Certification
    • Completed two years of successful coaching as an emergency coach
    • Spent the previous year as an emergency coach at the hiring school
Essential Job Functions
  • Follow policies in the Charles County Public Schools Extra-Curricular Handbook.
  • Assist with pre-season meetings and report to practices on time.
  • Secure facilities before and after practices and games.
  • Teach fundamentals, promote sportsmanship, and ensure player eligibility.
  • Supervise practices and games, manage equipment, and maintain safety standards.
  • Attend meetings, clinics, and assist with team records and budget planning.
Physical & Environmental Requirements

Must have ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, lift 10-50 pounds, and perform physical tasks associated with coaching activities. Good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity required.
