Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements plans for the curriculum program assigned and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
  • Works cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to IEP.
  • Consistently assesses student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Presents a positive example for students that supports the mission of Haven Schools.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom and administers discipline according to board policies, regulations, and IEPs.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures set forth by the Bay Haven Charter Academy, Inc. Board of Directors and Haven Administration.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The Teacher empowers students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field of study (required).
  • Current Florida teaching certificate (required).
  • 2+ years prior experience in an instructional or classroom environment (preferred).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure data is entered accurately.
  • Ability to multi-task when necessary.
  • Great oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws that apply to the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to analyze information and make recommendations to management as needed.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain strict organization and student confidentiality.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching for extended periods of time.
  • Periodic need to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 25 pounds and/or perform a two-person lift greater than 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally performed in a fast-paced, high volume, school/office environment.
  • Must be able to tolerate varying environmental conditions including, but not limited to heat, cold, rain, etc.
  • Must be able to tolerate frequent interruptions from administrators, staff members, students, and others.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Occasional travel to various school, district, state, and/or community events may be required.
