Job summary

Mt. Bachelor LLC is seeking a snow groomer to operate snowmobiles and light grooming equipment, maintaining Nordic ski trails and snowshoe paths in Bend, Oregon.

You will monitor weather and grooming status, assist with events, and coordinate with the Nordic Center team to ensure safe, high‑quality trail surfaces for guests and racers in varying winter conditions.

Qualifications

Position Summary

Operate snowmobile and light grooming equipment during the day in variable weather and snow conditions. Set and maintain snowshoe trails as needed. Create a safe and consistent snow surface product on the ski and snowshoe trails. Monitor trail signage and perform trailside maintenance when warranted. Assist with ticket checking at the Access Gate and on the trails. Work and communicate with Nordic Center Manager, Grooming Manager, and Snowcat Operator to ensure scheduled time is productive and efficient. Effectively communicate grooming status and updates with staff and guests utilizing knowledge and proficiency of Nordic skiing and understanding of snow science. Assist with trail preparation and maintenance for Nordic Center races and events.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
  • Use snowmobile drag and track setting equipment to groom and compact snow for consistent snow surface product during and after storms, during events, and as required for daily Nordic ski operations.
  • Use snowshoes to set and maintain snowshoe trails after storms and as needed.
  • Clean and maintain Bob’s Bungalow and picnic areas.
  • Monitor weather conditions and advise grooming status for Nordic Manager.
  • Check snowmobile daily for optimal operational efficiency.
  • Monitor service hours and notify when service is needed.
  • Complete snowmobile training and operate the snowmobile in accordance with Mt Bachelor’s guidelines and safety standards.
  • Complete safety training and demonstrate proficiency in use of chainsaw and hand tools.
  • Cut trees, limbs, and brush that endanger or impede skier traffic on trails.
  • Understand shop procedures.
  • Report equipment issues clearly and correctly.
  • Inform Nordic Manager or Grooming Manager of changes or problems.
  • Follow all safety protocols.
Secondary Function
  • Assist with Nordic Center events, including preparation and maintenance of trails and lodge.
  • May also include working the Nordic Events in roles including crowd control, ticket checking, course monitor, aid station management, tour guide, activity instructor, etc.
  • Perform pass enforcement duties at the gate, at all trail access points, and on the trails.
Job Scope

Operation of grooming equipment and hand tools during daytime operations to maintain Nordic Ski Trails and Snowshoe Trails for the public safely and proficiently, without causing safety issues and/or damage to yourself, co-workers, guests or the equipment being operated or worked around.

Interpersonal Contacts

Daily contact with Nordic and Mountain Operations departments such as but not limited to Patrol, Vehicle Maintenance, Snow Removal, Building Maintenance, Public Safety, and Lodge Services.

Specific Job Skills

License/Certifications: Current and Valid Driver’s License. Technical: Experience with snowmobiles, extensive knowledge and proficiency in classic and skate Nordic skiing. Physical Capabilities: Ability to adapt to a changing environment at any given moment. Working for extended periods in harsh winter weather. Frequent shoveling, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Snowshoeing through deep and heavy snow conditions. Snowmobiling during winter storms, deep and drifting snow, low light, and on frozen and icy surfaces.

Physical Demands

In addition to the physical capabilities outlined above, every position at Mt. Bachelor requires the ability to shovel snow and walk on steep and uneven surfaces.

Additional

Experience in front-line guest service/ effective communication skills Education / Related Experience Minimum education required: Read and Write Clearly. Minimum time in related position: Experience strongly preferred but not required.
