Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) is seeking a knowledgeable Nordic Skiing Assistant Coach for the 2026-27 season. This part-time stipend position supports our Nordic Ski program with attendance at practices and competitions at Sleepy Hollow Ski Center in Huntington, VT.

The ideal candidate has Nordic skiing experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and CPR/AED certification with NFHS courses.

Job Description

Nordic Skiing Assistant Coach Needed

Location: Champlain Valley Union High School

This position will remain open until filled. However, applications received within the first seven days of posting will receive priority consideration. Internal candidates will also be prioritized over external applicants during this initial seven-day window.

Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated professional to assist our Nordic Ski program for the 2026-27 season. We are looking for an individual who can foster a competitive and supportive environment while helping athletes develop both on and off the competition surface. This is a part-time, category I stipend position.

The season begins on Monday, November 30, 2026, and runs through the beginning of March. Candidates must have the ability to attend practices and competitions. Practices are held at Sleepy Hollow Ski Center in Huntington, VT.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist, manage, and develop the Nordic Skiing program, providing specialized instruction and skill development to high school student-athletes.
• Assist with race day management responsibilities and foster a competitive yet sportsmanlike team culture.
• Manage player development, safety, and supervision to support student achievement and well-being.
• Work collaboratively with the coaching staff, athletic department, and activities director to ensure program continuity, alignment with school goals, and clear communication with families.
• Ensure all safety, educational, and school district protocols are followed.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

• Previous nordic skiing experience, either through prior playing or coaching roles.
• Strong knowledge of nordic skiing rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to interface effectively with student-athletes, families, and the broader school community.
• A proven ability to mentor and motivate high school-aged athletes, cultivating a lifelong appreciation for physical fitness, teamwork, and positive choices.
• A deep commitment to inclusivity, helping to develop an environment that represents and welcomes all students and families.
• Must hold a valid CPR/AED Certification and complete all mandatory NFHS courses.

This is a part-time stipend position based on qualifications and experience. The position is a "category II activity" on our co-curricular contract and the compensation is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. More information about CVSD can be found on our district website .
