Job summary

The Falls Church Anglican is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Falls Church, VA. Reporting to the Director of Accounting and Finance, this role covers general ledger, payroll administration, financial reporting, and nonprofit accounting operations.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of accounting experience, a solid grasp of GAAP, strong Excel skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments while maintaining confidentiality of payroll and donor

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2–4 years of professional accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, and GAAP.
• Experience preparing journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with MS Office.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle confidential payroll, employee, donor, and financial information with discretion.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-service mindset.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

• Review general ledger activity for accuracy, classification, and compliance with policies.
• Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries per GAAP.
• Perform monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies with stakeholders.
• Assist with monthly and year-end close processes.
• Prepare internal financial reports and analyses comparing actuals to budget and prior periods.
• Support stakeholders on accounting matters and transaction treatment.
• Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
