Job summary

Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance Team in Milwaukee, WI. This full-time, non-exempt role handles accounts payable, payroll backup, and bank reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records for our nonprofit organization.

The Staff Accountant will process vendor invoices, support audits, grants reporting, and help strengthen internal controls while contributing to the community by ensuring fiscal compliance and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in finance or accounting or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Proficient with accounting software and QuickBooks.
• Strong MS Office and Excel skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; confidentiality is essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable with integrity and accuracy.
• Prepare weekly check runs and ACH payments.
• Act as payroll backup and maintain payroll processes.
• Complete monthly bank reconciliations and GL reconciliations.
• Support year-end closing and audit preparation.
• Assist with grant reporting and compliance analysis.
• Maintain the departmental operations procedures manual.
