Job summary

Fort Bend Regional Council On Subst is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead financial operations and administrative support for a nonprofit with a $5 million annual budget. The CFO will partner with the CEO and COO, manage grants, audits, and internal controls, and present financials to the Board.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong nonprofit accounting background, and extensive experience with federal/state grants, audits, and compliance to support strategic planning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience.
  • Experience with federal and state grant accounting, reimbursement requests, quarterly reporting, and annual grant closeouts.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supplemental schedules.
  • Experience assisting with annual audits and working with external auditors.
  • Knowledge of Yellow Book audits and governmental/grant compliance requirements.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
  • Strong internal controls and nonprofit financial operations understanding.
  • Experience with payroll, HR, and benefits administration.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting and financial operations, including vendor payments.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supplemental schedules.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for management and Board of Directors.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
  • Develop and monitor the annual organizational budget.
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, cash-flow management, and decision support.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor financial performance relative to the $5M annual budget.
  • Manage grant accounting, reimbursements, budgets, and reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure grant funds are tracked and used properly.
  • Coordinate annual financial audit and liaise with external auditors.
  • Support compliance with federal/state reporting requirements.
