Midwest Food Bank seeks an Accounting Director – Audit & Governance to lead audit, governance, and financial controls for a faith-based nonprofit. You will oversee external audits, internal controls, grant administration, and compliance while supporting budgeting and reporting efforts.

The role emphasizes integrity, teamwork, and stewardship as the organization distributes food and disaster relief, with opportunities to influence policy and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• CPA is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting procedures.
• Experience with mid-size organizations and internal controls.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Familiarity with key software including Sage Intacct, Salesforce, and Office 365.

Responsibilities

• Oversee external audits and annual 990 tax return preparation.
• Administer internal audits of grants, inventory, and restricted funds.
• Govern governance processes and grant recordkeeping at operations level.
• Lead annual workers’ compensation audit and insurance renewals.
• Manage banking, insurance, and state registrations for compliance.
• Prepare dashboards and quarterly reports; support budgeting activities.
• Provide back-up for payroll and journal entries; assist on projects.
