Job summary

Midwest Food Bank seeks an Accounting Director – Audit & Governance to lead audit, compliance, and financial controls for a $570M nonprofit. This role ensures governance processes and accurate financial reporting to support the mission.

You will oversee external audits, internal controls, grant governance, and 401(k) reviews, while collaborating with leadership and program teams. A CPA and GAAP expertise are valued, along with integrity and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; CPA preferred.
• 3–5 years relevant work experience; 3 years required, 5 years desired.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience with audits and external financial reporting (including 990).
• Excellent communication and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Oversee external financial audits and annual 990 tax return.
• Administer internal audits on grants, inventory, contributions, and restricted funds.
• Oversee grant governance, training, and compliance at operational level.
• Manage inventory processes including receiving, storing and distributing.
• Prepare quarterly dashboards and reports for leadership.
• Serve as back-up for Payroll and collaborate on accounting projects.
