Job summary

HANSTAFF is recruiting a Licensed Pharmacist for an onsite assignment in Alderson, WV, to support a federal correctional facility. The role offers $65 per hour on a 1099 basis with Monday–Friday shifts, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays.

The duties include reviewing drug orders, counseling patients, preparing medications, and coordinating with physicians. You’ll need a current, unrestricted license in any U.S. state and the ability to obtain a BOP clearance.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in any U.S. state.

Responsibilities

• Screens drug orders for interactions and incompatibilities.
• Review outpatient prescriptions for billing info and eligibility.
• Consult with physicians to clarify medication orders.
• Instruct patients on proper medication use.
• Prepare, dispense drugs and drug preparations.
• Fill prescriptions and perform ward inspections.
• Check Pharmacy Technician work as needed.
• Maintain records and update reference materials.
• Bill medication administration records and assist with audits.
• Coordinate weekend/holiday medication borrowing and ensure stock is adequate.
• Document IV rounds, patient profiles, and chemotherapy IVs.

Pay Rate

Shift Schedule

Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays

7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch

Candidate Requirements

• Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in any U.S. state
• Available for the required assignment period
• Able to work onsite in a federal correctional facility
• Able to pass BOP security clearance and drug screening
• Copy of pharmacist license
• Diploma and academic transcripts
• Applicable education and training credentials
• Two professional reference letters
• Clear NPDB report
• Verification of professional or medical liability insurance

Duties

• Screens drug orders for drug interactions and Incompatibilities
• Screens outpatient prescriptions for billing information and whether or not the prescription can be filled depending upon the patient's financial category
• Consults with physicians as necessary to clarify medication orders
• Instructs patients on proper use of their medications
• Prepares and dispenses drugs and pharmaceutical preparations
• Fills prescriptions
• Assists in ward inspections
• Checks the work of Pharmacy Technician as required
• Updates reference books, treatment authorization requests and non-formulary drug lists
• Bills medication administration records
• Assists with chart reviews and audits
• Coordinates medication borrowing procedures from other hospitals on weekends and holidays
• Notifies appropriate persons when stock levels become low
• Completes daily I.V. Rounds, checks patient profiles, keeps/updates I.V. Admixture patient profile records and compounds, chemotherapy I.V.'s
• Keeps records of drugs, poisons and narcotics as required by federal and state law
• Accompanies physicians on medical and surgical rounds as time permits
• Maintains and keeps in clean and orderly condition the drug and chemical supplies of the Pharmacy
