Job summary

Federal Bureau of Prisons-Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, WV seeks a licensed Pharmacist to oversee daily medication delivery, ensure proper storage, and support patient care. The role requires an ACPE-recognized pharmacy degree and active licensure in the United States.

Typical hours are Monday–Friday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM with on-call as needed. Prior correctional environment experience is preferred and the incumbent must adhere to security requirements of the facility.

Qualifications

  • ACPE-recognized pharmacy degree (or equivalent).
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in a US state, DC, PR, or US territory.
  • Corrections/prison environment experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation of the medication delivery system and ensure proper storage and integrity of medications.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including drug utilization evaluations as needed.
  • Maintain records and reports related to purchase, receipt, and disposition of drugs and related supplies.
  • Provide patient-centered pharmaceutical care and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize therapy.
  • Support safety and security requirements consistent with corrective institution expectations.

A degree in Pharmacy recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

Pay Rate

$52.50 to $60 hourly (negotiable depending upon education and experience)

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the medication delivery system and assures that the integrity of all medications is maintained and is properly stored.
  • Responsible for participating in quality assurance activities regarding medications. This includes policy and medication usage and/or audits and the suggestion, authoring, or performance of Drug Utilization Evaluation studies needed to maintain quality patient care and cost-effective medication management.
  • Responsible for the records and reports related to the purchase, receipt and disposition of drugs and related supplies.
  • Responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care including patient-centered, outcomes-oriented pharmacy practice.
  • Work in concert with the patient and other healthcare providers to promote health; prevent disease; and assess, monitor, initiate and modify medication use to ensure that drug therapy regimens are safe and effective.
  • Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.
Basic Requirements
  • A degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. OR equivalent degree.

Pharmacists with Experience working in a Corrections / Prison environment will be given consideration priority.

Licensure
  • Applicants also must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
