A companion position varies in hours but generally follows a set and recurring schedule. We hire not only experienced healthcare workers but also individuals with personal experience in elder care, memory care, or caregiving. This includes artists, performers, nursing and graduate students, educators, caseworkers, and professionals seeking a meaningful second career. This role is ideal for those currently working freelance or part-time and seeking a consistent schedule in a fulfilling role.

Duet is a companion care agency serving older adults across the five boroughs. Our mission is to enhance our Elder clients' quality of life through social engagement, meaningful activities, and assistance with daily tasks that become more challenging with age. Our focus on matchmaking has fostered long-lasting connections.

This job does not involve "hands-on" physical care such as dressing or bathing assistance.

Typical Activities and Responsibilities:

• Providing companionship to older adults and individuals with chronic conditions, including discussing current events, shared interests, or outings to cultural or entertainment venues.
• Assisting with non-physical tasks like meal prep, grocery shopping, and light housework such as laundry or disposing of leftovers.
• Safety supervision and standby assistance with ambulation, medication reminders, and following care plans.
• For clients with dementia, effective communication, mental stimulation, and safety supervision are essential. We support our caregivers with training and ongoing assistance from specialists in elder and memory care.
