The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above range is a good faith estimate of potential compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) and the Northeast Regional Alliance MedPrep HCOP Academy Program (MedPrep) aim to support undergraduate students who are economically disadvantaged and/or from groups historically underrepresented in health professions. Each year, SHPEP serves 80 scholars, while MedPrep is offered to 20 rising college sophomores and juniors.

The programs focus on academic enrichment to enhance scholars' performance in pre-health science courses, complemented by supplemental courses to improve learning and study skills. Participants also engage in practical experiences and career seminars.

Preceptor Role

Preceptors will lead courses for cohorts of approximately 20-45 students from diverse backgrounds. The role involves curriculum development, course instruction, and mentorship. Courses include:

  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • General Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Statistics
  • Narrative Medicine
Responsibilities
  • Understand program goals and attend orientation and training
  • Develop course syllabi
  • Participate in briefings and ceremonies
  • Meet with facilitators for updates and feedback
  • Prepare and deliver lectures and materials
  • Lead classes and arrange substitutes if needed
  • Host office hours for scholars
  • Administer and grade assessments, and record grades
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Affiliation with Columbia University through graduate studies
  • Background in science and/or mathematics
  • Teaching experience
  • Leadership and organizational skills
