Position: Non-Instructional Assistant
Department: Primary School
Reports to: Primary School Principal
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Pay Rate: $15.75/hr
SUMMARY:
Responsible for student supervision in the hallways, cafeteria, and during recess. This individual is directly responsible for student safety and well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supervises students at recess, during lunchtime, and in hallways.
- Maintains a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.
- Directs movement of groups in a safe and organized manner to and from the cafeteria in addition to monitoring students in hallways.
- Assists students in cafeteria clean-up.
- Participates in in-service training as directed.
- Demonstrates understanding of students’ needs.
- Demonstrates initiative and creativity with students.

Education and Experience:- High School diploma; preference given to those having a minimum of two years college. Previous experience with children, especially at-risk students or students with disabilities preferred.
Language Skills:- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, students, parents, and/or administrators.
Reasoning Ability:- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand or walk for long periods of time. - The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work both inside as well as outside for recess periods. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee must work with parents, staff, students, and administrators continuously meeting multiple demands from several people. The employee is continuously responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
