Job summary

Beehive Industries in Cincinnati, Ohio, is seeking a NDI Technician - FPI Level II to independently set up and execute fluorescent penetrant inspections on aerospace hardware in accordance with NAS 410 and Beehive's NDT written practice.

You will guide Level I personnel, develop work instructions when authorized, and ensure records, traceability, and audit readiness. A U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

Role Overview

The NDI Technician - FPI Level II independently sets up, performs, interprets, evaluates, and documents fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI/PT) on aerospace hardware in accordance with approved procedures, applicable specifications, and Beehive Industries' NDT written practice. The Level II serves as a technical resource for FPI execution, provides guidance and supervision to trainees and Level I personnel, and supports consistent, compliant special-process performance in accordance with NAS 410.

What You’ll Do...
  • Set up, standardize, and independently perform fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI/PT) in accordance with approved procedures, work instructions, drawings, and applicable customer or industry requirements.
  • Interpret and evaluate FPI indications against applicable acceptance criteria, make acceptance or rejection determinations within assigned certification authority, and accurately document results.
  • Perform and verify required equipment standardizations, system performance checks, process controls, and material checks; identify, contain, and elevate nonconforming process conditions.
  • Review applicable codes, standards, specifications, drawings, purchase-order requirements, and contractual documents that control FPI activities performed by Beehive.
  • Provide technical guidance, direct observation, and/or supervision to trainees and Level I personnel as permitted by Beehive's written practice.
  • When authorized by Beehive's written practice, develop detailed work instructions from approved general procedures for final technical approval by a certified Level III.
  • Ensure inspection records, traceability, process logs, and nonconformance documentation are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Support root-cause investigations, corrective actions, process improvements, and cross-functional resolution of inspection or manufacturing issues without exceeding assigned NDI authority.
  • Support internal, customer, regulatory, and special-process audits, including demonstration of FPI process controls and personnel compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Quality and manufacturing operations.

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade-school education in nondestructive testing, inspection, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Must meet the formal training, examination, and vision requirements for Penetrant Testing Level II under NAS 410 Revision 6 and Beehive Industries' approved NDT written practice.
Experience
  • For PT/FPI Level II qualification with prior Level I certification, NAS 410 Revision 6 specifies a minimum of 16 additional hours of formal PT training and 270 hours of applicable experience.
  • Direct access to Level II requires a minimum of 32 hours of formal PT training and 400 hours of applicable experience.
  • Documented prior training, experience, and certification are subject to review and approval by Beehive's Responsible Level III or Examiner in accordance with the written practice.
  • Demonstrated experience performing and evaluating FPI on aerospace or other high-reliability hardware.
Skills & Competencies
  • Thorough working knowledge of FPI/PT principles, techniques, process limitations, materials, equipment, system performance checks, and common manufacturing discontinuities.
  • Ability to independently interpret and evaluate indications and apply acceptance criteria from approved technical documents within the scope of certification.
  • Working knowledge of relevant aerospace manufacturing and inspection technologies and their relationship to penetrant inspection results.
  • Ability to provide clear technical guidance and effective oversight to trainees and Level I personnel.
  • Strong technical documentation, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain applicable near-vision and color-perception requirements and ongoing qualification/recertification status in accordance with Beehive's written practice.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Nice to have...
  • Current or previous employer certification to NAS 410 or EN 4179 as PT/FPI Level II.
  • Experience inspecting aerospace castings, forgings, weldments, machined components, or additively manufactured hardware.
  • Experience in an AS9100 and/or Nadcap-accredited special-process environment, including audit support and process-control documentation.
  • Additional NDI certifications or documented training in other methods such as magnetic particle, radiography, ultrasonic, or eddy current testing.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work for extended periods in a manufacturing and inspection environment, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and using inspection equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to safely handle parts and materials consistent with site lifting requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Regular use of required PPE and work around approved penetrant-process chemicals and UV-A inspection equipment; must follow applicable EHS controls and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts and overtime as business needs require; limited travel may be required for training or support at other Beehive locations
