Job summary

Aerotek in Kent, WA is seeking an NDT Inspector on the 2nd shift, offering a structured trainee path to certification in Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, and Nital Etch for aerospace components.

Job Title: Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector — 2nd Shift
Job Description

This role offers a structured pathway from Inspector Trainee to certified Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector on 2nd shift. You will receive on-the-job training and dedicated study time to achieve certification in Magnetic Particle, Liquid Fluorescent Penetrant, and Nital Etch, and will perform inspections in accordance with Military and OEM specifications. The position requires participation in the FAA DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program and adherence to strict quality and safety standards in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Train under experienced NDT Inspectors and NDT Level III personnel to learn and perform Non-Destructive Testing processes on aerospace components.

  • Work closely with experienced Inspectors and the NDT Level III Responsible to complete work assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet production schedules.

  • Follow technique cards, customer purchase orders, and instructions from experienced NDT Inspectors to perform inspections accurately and consistently.

  • Perform Operator Self Verification inspections to confirm that all prior operations have been completed correctly before proceeding.

  • Review paperwork and inspection documentation for completeness and accuracy, and notify supervision and Quality Assurance of any discrepancies or errors.

  • Prepare parts prior to NDT operations, including cleaning, masking, and using proper tooling and fixtures as required.

  • Conduct NDT inspections in accordance with Military and OEM specifications using Magnetic Particle, Liquid Fluorescent Penetrant, and Nital Etch methods once certified.

  • Interpret and apply Quality Assurance requirements and rework procedures to ensure compliance with internal and customer standards.

  • Read and understand engineering drawings and notations to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.

  • Assist in developing new product processing methods and identify opportunities to improve inspection processes and workflow.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance productivity, delivery performance, and service quality.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments to support production needs and meet customer demand.

  • Train and positively influence others by sharing knowledge, supporting cross-training, and contributing to a learning-focused environment.

  • Use or learn Lean tools and techniques to identify and solve tactical and strategic problems within the NDT area.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, and on-the-job training (OJT) hours as required for certification and compliance.

  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including participation in the FAA DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program and completion of required Industrial Eye Exams.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including cross-training in other production areas as workflow demands.

Essential Skills
  • Previous NAS410 Level II certification in Fluorescent Magnetic Particle (Stationary Horizontal Wet Bench) in the aerospace industry, with well-documented on-the-job training (OJT) hours.

  • Previous NAS410 Level II certification in Fluorescent Liquid Penetrant (Methods A & B) in the aerospace industry, with well-documented OJT hours; candidates who have completed one Level II area (Magnetic Particle or Liquid Penetrant) and can show OJT hours may still apply.

  • Hands‑on NDT inspection experience in an aerospace environment, including Magnetic Particle and Liquid Fluorescent Penetrant methods.

  • Demonstrated ability to train and positively influence others in a production or technical setting.

  • Ability to work as a self‑starter, performing effectively both independently and as part of a team, and interacting professionally with internal and external customers.

  • Excellent accuracy and strong attention to detail in inspection and documentation activities.

  • Ability to solve both tactical and strategic problems related to inspection processes and production flow.

  • Ability and willingness to use or learn Lean tools and techniques to address process issues and drive improvements.

  • Requirement to join the FAA DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program and maintain compliance with program requirements.

  • Ability to pass an initial and annual Industrial Eye Exam to meet visual acuity requirements for NDT inspection.

  • Regular and dependable attendance with a strong sense of reliability and accountability.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

  • Authorization to work in the U.S.; an export license may be required to work in certain areas.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance requirements and rework procedures in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, notations, and specifications for inspection requirements.

  • Experience working in a continuous improvement culture, contributing ideas and participating in improvement initiatives.

  • Comfort working closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and engineering.

  • Willingness to cross‑train in other production areas as workflow demands.

Work Environment

This position operates on 2nd shift in an aerospace manufacturing and inspection environment. You will work around moving mechanical parts and may experience occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals associated with NDT processes. Temperature in the facility can fluctuate based on outdoor conditions. Hearing protection is required in designated areas, and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses or goggles, aprons, rubber boots, gloves, and a respirator is provided and must be worn as required. The work involves hands‑on inspection at NDT stations, adherence to strict safety and quality procedures, and collaboration with production and quality teams in a structured industrial setting.
