Job summary

Pratt & Whitney is seeking an NDT Inspector for an on-site role in Asheville, NC. You will perform multiple non-destructive inspection methods on aircraft components, following customer specifications and FAA-related guidelines.

Extensive hands-on training and cross-functional collaboration are expected. The position requires maintaining NDT equipment, interpreting engineering data, and ensuring proper documentation.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in any NDT method or certification/degree in NDT.
• 3+ years in a Quality or related technical role in manufacturing/production.
• High School Diploma / GED or equivalent.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Perform NDI methods (FPI, X-Ray, Etch, Ultrasonic, CT) and inspect aircraft components per customer specs and procedures.
• Maintain NDT equipment and stay current with FAA/industry data and ensure proper segregation of components.
• Interpret engineering data and document results; conduct in-line checks and audits to ensure process compliance.
• Train Level 2s and Level 1s in equipment setup, processing, and inspection.

Location: US-NC-ASHEVILLE-330 ~ 330 Pratt Whitney Blvd ~ PRATT WHITNEY

Position Role Type: Onsite

Shift: 2nd shift (Monday‑Thursday, 4:15 pm – 2:45 am)

What You Will Do

• Perform non‑destructive inspection (NDI) such as FPI/ X‑Ray/ Etch/ Ultrasonic and CT scan based on qualifications, perform cleaning and inspection of aircraft components according to customer specifications, airworthiness directives, applicable manufacturer CMM guidelines and operating procedures and identify structural and material defects, interpret test results, complete test reports and present findings.
• Maintain NDT equipment, keep current knowledge of and comply with customer/Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/Joint Aviation Administration (JAA) technical data as applicable to the work assigned and maintain proper segregation and identification of components in progress.
• Familiarity with plant tools, equipment, blueprints and inspection gauges: follow procedures to perform in‑line checks and verification of dimensions, ensure appropriate documentation, and ensure that process steps are being followed, interpret engineering technical data, such as manufacturing or part drawings, to provide guidance to cross‑functional teams, use a variety of fixed and variable measuring instruments including automated measuring, perform Solumina required job audits for OpCert surveillance and perform OpCert over‑inspects, as required.
• Bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, train other inspectors to perform work tasks and provide technical support and maintain a strong working relationship with the operations team.
• Detailed NDT inspection certification is required after training.
• Certified Level 2’s are required to train NDT trainees and Level 1’s in equipment setup, processing, and inspecting.
• Stand and walk for long periods of time and perform physical activities such as bending, reaching, pulling and pushing.

Qualifications You Must Have

• 1+ year’s experience in any NDT method (e.g., fluorescent penetrant testing, X‑Ray, magnetic particle, CT, ultrasonic, etch) OR certification or degree in any NDT method.
• 3+ years of experience working in a Quality or related technical role within a manufacturing/production facility.
• High School Diploma / GED or equivalent.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of MS Office computer software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with inspection gauges and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
