Job summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) seeks an NDI Quality Inspector IV to perform nondestructive testing on composite flight hardware, utilizing ultrasonic, radiographic, PAUT and related methods in accordance with NAS-410 or SNT-TC-1A guidelines.

You will train to Level 2 across several NDI methods and support process improvements. On-site position in Poway, CA, offering full-time hourly work.

Qualifications

  • Formal NDI training and multi-method experience with Level 2/3 cert per NAS-410 or SNT-TC-1A.
  • Associate degree or equivalent in NDT or related field required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking training to achieve Level 2 in multiple NDI methods (Eddy Current, FPI, Radiographic, MT, Ultrasonic).
  • Implementing procedures, instructions and techniques.
  • Performing control checks on test method capability.
  • Documenting and advising team on test outcomes.
  • Reviewing customer requirements such as drawings and process specs.
  • Developing and maintaining NDI test processes and procedures.
  • Operate ultrasonic and phased array equipment, RT systems, and robotic scanners.
  • Interface with engineers and customers to improve processes.

Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. The NDI Quality Inspector IV performs nondestructive testing to verify the structural integrity of composite fight hardware, uses conventional and automated ultrasonic, radiographic, Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and other NDI test methods, e.g., FPI, and performs NDI on aircraft parts and evaluate test results by analyzing and interpreting the data in accordance with customer requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Undertaking training in NDI Methods to achieve Level 2 in Eddy Current, Fluorescent Penetrant, Radiographic, Magnetic Particle and Ultrasonic Testing to Specification NAS-410.
  • Implementing Procedures, Instruction & Techniques as required.
  • Performing Control Checks on Test Method capability.
  • Documenting and advising local team members of test outcome.
  • Review and implement customer requirements, such as: Engineering Drawings, Process Specifications, and other industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain processes, test methodology and procedures.
  • Understand manufacturing methods and part construction, as it relates to the NDI data.
  • Operate ultrasonic equipment, such as a-scan & resonance scopes, phased array equipment and automated scanning systems.
  • Operate test equipment, such as robotic scanners and computed radiography data acquisition systems.
  • Other test equipment may include eddy current scopes and CT gantry systems.
  • Identify and investigate new technologies, processes, and/or procedures to maintain or improve NDI capabilities, efficiencies, etc.
  • Interface with engineers, internal & external customers, manufacturing personnel, and management to improve processes.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and instruction to other NDI technicians.
  • Integrate improvements to realize benefits in cost, cycle, and customer satisfaction, and performs other assignments and tasks as directed.

Job Qualifications
  • Completed formal NDI training and experience requirements in multiple methods and have documented previous level 2 or 3 certification per Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) AIA-NAS-410 or SNT-TC-1A certification guidelines. This position typically requires an associate's degree, trade school certification, military training, or equivalent qualification training in NDT inspection methods.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, experience, and motivation to effectively communicate complex processes and procedures to lower level inspectors.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of NDI methods and composite manufacturing processes.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Wet layup and Prepreg composite materials and fabrication methods.
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications and perform mathematical computations.
  • Must possess strong computer skill for effective communication and recordkeeping.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and guard sensitive information.

Job Type: Full-Time Hourly

Salary range: 71,950 - 109,885
