Job summary

University of Houston-Downtown is seeking a New Student Orientation Leader (Gator Crew) to help ensure a smooth transition for incoming students and families. You will work with campus partners and student leaders to deliver welcoming, inclusive orientation experiences.

As a current UHD student, you will coordinate events, communicate deadlines, provide information, and serve as a professional campus representative both in person and virtually.

Qualifications

• Must attend all training and orientation program days.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and uphold boundaries.
• Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing with the university.

Responsibilities

• Supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of orientation events and related programming.
• Serves as a resource for incoming students, parents, and guests with UHD community information.
• Initiate and maintain effective communication with students and families participating in orientation.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, Gator Crew members, and UHD administration for a seamless transition.
• Represent UHD professionally in person and online (e.g., Zoom, social media).
• Act as a liaison with campus partners during orientation and transition programs.
• Communicate critical orientation information and deadlines via email, phone, and social media.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and uphold professional boundaries.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Department: Enrollment Communications Salary: $12.00 per hour

Description:

New Student Orientation Leader (Gator Crew) play a key role in ensuring the success of orientation and new student transition programs. This position fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for incoming students and their families while collaborating with campus partners and student leaders.

Primary Responsibilities

• Supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of orientation events and related programming
• Serves as a knowledgeable resource for incoming students, parents, and guests by providing information about the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) community
• Initiate and maintain effective communication with students and families participating in orientation
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, Gator Crew members, and UHD administration to ensure a seamless transition experience for new students
• Serve as a positive role model representing UHD with professionalism, both in person and through online platforms such as Zoom and social media
• Act as a liaison with campus partners during the planning and execution of orientation and transition programs
• Communicate critical orientation information and deadlines to incoming students via email, phone calls, and social media platforms
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and uphold appropriate professional boundaries
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Must be a current UHD student
• Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average during time of application and time of employment
• Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university
