GRADE: G08 (Hourly Range/Step 1 - Step 8: $20.69 - $25.51) Minimum Starting Hourly Rate: $20.69 Standard Hours Per Week: 40 FTE: 1.0 Months Per Year: 12 Job Code: 1608 Position Type: New – Permanent/Regular Location: Thornton, CO

Summary

Transport, safely and expediently, students and other authorized personnel to and from home, between schools and on district sponsored trips. Responsible for conducting pre‑trip inspections, observing safety regulations and policies; enforcing student discipline on the bus; and performing other related work duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive the bus route according to bus stop locations and time schedules, ensuring safe and expedient transportation of students and other authorized personnel. Monitor behavior on bus, including noise levels and settling disputes. Communicate with transportation personnel, parents, and school officials regarding behavior and write misconduct forms as needed.
• Perform daily pre‑trip inspections (checking oil, tires, fluids, etc.) and post‑trip inspections to maintain bus condition. Keep interior and exterior clean and ensure mirrors and windows are clear. Fuel vehicles per department guidelines.
• Communicate via two‑way radio for routine, urgent and emergency situations. Report unsafe route or bus stop conditions to scheduler/dispatcher.
• Assist students with special education or wheelchair needs during boarding/unloading, ensuring seatbelts, safety vests, and restraints are used correctly. Protect student confidential information.
• Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions, including in‑services, driver meetings, first aid and CPR classes.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• No experience required.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Criminal background check required for hire.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid Colorado driver's license.
• Submission of Motor Vehicle Record required at time of application.
• Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical required for hire.
• Must meet Colorado Department of Education and FMCSR Part 382 requirements.
• Successful completion of the District Driver Training Program required for hire.
• CPR and First Aid certifications within three months after entering position.

Salary Information

All classified positions are paid on an hourly basis. New hires are placed on Step 1 of their pay grade and may advance up to Step 8 based on experience. Final hourly placement depends on grade level and prior experience. Refer to the Classified Salary Schedule for hourly rates and the Classified Master Agreement for additional compensation information.
