Job summary

Cherry Creek School District Transportation Department seeks a Non-CDL Driver to contribute to safe, efficient student transportation. You will drive regular routes, support field trips, assist with para-educator tasks, and help with other duties as needed to ensure reliable service for students and families.

Responsibilities include transporting students, assisting those with special needs, performing vehicle inspections, and maintaining reporting, safety, and customer-service standards daily.

Education

JOB SUMMARY

Contribute to the overall success of the Cherry Creek School District Transportation Department through regular route driving, field-trip driving, performing para-educator functions, and assisting in other duties and functions as needed. Assist and transport students with special needs to ensure safe, efficient, courteous, and customer-service oriented transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. The approximation of frequencies and time allocation percentages are flexible and subject to the requirements of the organization.

  • 1. Safely transport students using a district vehicle along specified routes. Report delays or accidents. (Daily; 40%)
  • 2. Load and unload students at various stops and destinations. Provide emotional, behavioral, and physical support for students with specials needs. (Daily; 15%)
  • 3. Complete pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure safe operations of the vehicle by visually and tactically inspecting all components of the vehicle’s interior and exterior according to the Colorado Department of Education Standards. (Daily; 5%)
  • 4. Provide exceptional customer-service to students, parents/guardians, and staff. (Daily; 5%)
  • 5. Carry out student discipline activities before, during, and after assigned routes, if necessary. (Daily; 5%)
  • 6. Complete Medicaid paperwork for reimbursement purposes. (Daily; 5%)
  • 7. Communicate information and procedures to students, district personnel, and/or others in the event of an emergency situation. (Daily; 5%)
  • 8. Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of district vehicles. (Daily; 5%)
  • 9. Perform evacuation drills as required by the Colorado Department of Education and Transportation Department procedures. (Biannually; 5%)
  • 10. Participate in training activities required by the Transportation Department as required. (Annually; 5%)
  • 13. Perform other duties as assigned or requested. (Daily; 5%)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • No professional work experience required
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license
  • CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Upon hire, successful completion of the District Transportation Small Vehicle Training Program
  • Basic interpersonal relations skills
  • Basic organizational skills
  • Ability to implement behavior modification techniques
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students
  • Ability to meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool
  • Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Heavy work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 100 pounds)
  • Works both indoors and outdoors

  • CDL passenger driving experience
