Role Overview

Verus Mortgage Capital is seeking a Non-Agency (Non-QM) Underwriter to support underwriting for various mortgage products and property types. The role can be remote, working with management to fund mortgage transactions within established timeframes. The ideal candidate will have strong underwriting, compliance, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to address credit risk issues effectively.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Underwrite credit, property, and compliance documents to ensure loans meet guidelines and risk standards, including tax returns and P&L statements; bank statement income knowledge is a plus.
• Communicate and resolve underwriting issues, conditions, and concerns with brokers and internal teams.
• Review exception requests, determine compensating factors, and present recommendations.
• Collaborate with operational teams to prioritize files and complete duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of current non-QM and alternative documentation mortgage underwriting experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Deep knowledge of mortgage underwriting, guidelines, and processes.
• Knowledge of business purpose loans is a plus.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
