The UT Health East Texas system includes nine hospitals, over 90 physician clinics, more than 500 employed providers, 13 regional rehab facilities, two emergency centers, six urgent care clinics, regional home health services across 41 counties, an EMS fleet of 60+ ambulances and four helicopters, and a comprehensive trauma network including a Level 1 trauma center. Our primary service area has a population of over 600,000.
The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is the first in East Texas and part of the UT System. Its mission is to train healthcare professionals to serve rural and underserved communities, especially in East Texas.
The school offers 20 residency and fellowship programs, including family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, surgery, and anesthesia. Its Master of Biotechnology program emphasizes medical research and biotech innovation, preparing students for careers in diagnostics and therapeutics.
Construction is underway on a new 248,000 sq ft Medical Education Building in Tyler’s Midtown District, scheduled for completion in fall 2025. Connected to UT Health Tyler, it will support interdisciplinary education and expand medical training in the region.
