Job summary

Pets In Need is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to provide daily care for our shelter animals at Palo Alto and Redwood City, including feeding, cleaning, medicating, exercising, and enrichment, while following all handling protocols. Under the Foster and Animal Care Manager, you will help with transport, staff and volunteer interactions, and participate in humane care and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Physically demanding role requiring standing, bending, lifting and walking.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle large dogs up to 100 pounds.
• Willingness to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
• Must read and follow instructions in English.
• No allergic conditions to animals.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily care, feeding, exercise, and enrichment for shelter animals.
• Administers medications per Medical Team.
• Prepares enrichment items for animals.
• Clean living areas, bedding, and equipment.
• Observe animals for medical/behavioral issues and report.
• Transport animals as needed.
• Assist at both locations with animal care duties.
• Promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.
• Follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe workplace.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
