Base pay range

$50.00/hr - $55.00/hr

Beacon Hill Legal’s client, a law firm located in Scotch Plains, NJ, is seeking a NJ barred Education Law Attorney for an open-ended contract assignment. Our client is open to candidates at varying levels of experience, including new graduates and attorneys seeking a transition into education law and with a preference for exposure to education law, special education, labor/employment law, or public sector work is preferred. Pay is dependent upon experience, but compensation would be between $50-55 per hour.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct legal research and apply findings to support a wide range of client matters, including both litigation and general counsel issues.
• Draft legal documents such as memos, correspondence, contracts, policies, motions, and briefs, under the guidance of senior attorneys.
• Assist in litigation and administrative proceedings, including discovery, hearing preparation, and client representation as appropriate.
• Participate in advising public school clients on legal obligations involving governance, compliance, student and personnel matters, and special education.
• Attend board of education meetings, IEP meetings, mediations, and administrative hearings, with mentorship and supervision.
• Monitor and manage legal deadlines and assist with procedural compliance.
• Maintain organized case files and contribute to high-quality, responsive client service.

Qualifications:

• Admitted and in good standing with NJ state bar
• Ability to work remote on this assignment
• Interest in public education and a desire to support school districts and students through the legal system.
• Excellent legal research and writing skills.
• Strong analytical thinking and communication skills.
• Prior exposure to education law, special education, labor/employment law, or public sector work is preferred.
