Job description

A NIMAA instructor is responsible for providing instruction to persons participating in the NIMAA Medical Assisting program. S / He also supports other NIMAA staff by suggesting improvements to the curriculum and related instructional and support materials. In both roles, s / he reports directly to the Associate Director of Education, NIMAA, and collaborates closely with other team members and external partners.

NIMAA instructors will assist Student Services with Admissions interviews and Placement activities as needed.

S / he will participate in end-of-program debriefing sessions and help implement necessary program changes.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Learn strategies and details of person-centered, team-based primary health care, especially as practiced by high-performing organizations, with a focus on medical assistants.
  2. Familiarize with the online curriculum content for NIMAA and develop effective engagement strategies for students, managing inputs from multiple sources and evaluating effectiveness.
  3. Ensure didactic instruction of students through personal teaching and coordination of others, covering a minimum of one group of 20-25 students across up to five topics.
  4. Provide feedback to students via comments, postings, and grading, and establish effective instructional relationships.
  5. Support students' navigation through the program, offering advising as needed.
  6. Manage instructional operations, including Moodle postings, scheduling, and record-keeping.
  7. Ensure effective connection between online learning and in-clinic externship operations, supporting preceptors.
  8. Support NIMAA staff and external partners working on related initiatives.
  9. Collaborate closely with the instructional and broader support teams.
  10. Report directly to the Associate Director of Education.
  11. Assist in creating and implementing curriculum improvement plans based on feedback from various stakeholders.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Education or NIMAA’s CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills and Education
  • Associate’s degree or higher.
  • At least three years of experience as a medical assistant.
  • Experience in educating or training medical assistants.
Preferred Skills
  • Three years of primary health care experience as a medical assistant, preferably in a PCMH, team-based practice.
  • At least three years of instructional experience with medical assistants.
Required Licenses / Certifications
  • Current national medical assisting credential or higher licensure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily sedentary work with occasional walking between sites and travel.
