Job description

Overview

This postdoctoral research opportunity is hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Research Innovation, Validation, and Application (ORIVA). The role focuses on advancing integrated approaches to testing and assessment (IATA) for developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) by improving interpretation, standardization, and regulatory application of non‑animal testing strategies. It is conducted in partnership with ORAU and the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).

Responsibilities
  • Acquire advanced knowledge in DNT, predictive toxicology, and IATA.
  • Evaluate and integrate multiple data sources, including DNT in‑vitro battery results, literature, toxicological datasets, and high‑throughput screening data.
  • Apply the OECD IATA framework and interpret non‑animal testing data.
  • Utilize computational methods such as physiologically based toxicokinetic (PBTK) modeling and in‑vitro‑to‑in‑vivo extrapolation (IVIVE).
  • Develop analytical, collaborative, and scientific communication skills through interdisciplinary teamwork to support standardized, human‑relevant DNT assessment and regulatory decision‑making.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field, received within the last five years or currently being pursued.
  • Background in designing artificial‑intelligence or automation solutions is strongly preferred.
  • Age 18 years or older.
  • U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and qualified foreign nationals are eligible.
Location

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Fellows are expected to work fully on‑site or in a hybrid arrangement.

Compensation

The appointment includes a monthly stipend that varies based on academic and professional background. NIH may provide a health‑insurance supplement if the ORAU/ORISE plan is selected.

Duration

Initial appointment is one year, renewable annually for up to four additional years, contingent on available funding.

Eligibility

Applicants must have a doctoral degree earned within the last five years or be in the final stages of completing one. Preference is given to those with experience in AI or automation.

EEO Statement

This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR), and qualified foreign nationals. Applicants with non‑U.S. citizenship should consult the appropriate immigration guidelines.
