Job summary

Pilgrim’s in Louisiana is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to inspect, repair, and maintain machinery, ensuring safety and efficiency in a fast‑paced poultry plant. You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, perform preventive maintenance, document repairs, and follow all safety policies.

A high school diploma is required; base hourly pay starts at $21.35 and eligible benefits begin after 60 days. This role demands teamwork and willingness to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with hand/power tools, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, blueprints, and CMMS.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork.
• Physical ability to stand long hours, lift heavy loads, and work in various positions.
• Hazwoper and Confined Space training requirements are part of safety prerequisites.
• Must read electrical schematics and troubleshoot 110/220/480V circuits.
• Basic welding skills and Hazmat-related qualifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Inspection: conduct routine preventive maintenance and diagnostics on motors, pumps, valves, and equipment.
• Repair & Installation: fix broken components, install new machinery, and perform emergency fixes.
• Troubleshooting: diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using tests and schematics.
• Documentation: maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
• Safety & Compliance: follow health, safety, and environmental regulations; adhere to plant policies.
• Work with maintenance teams and learn safety and machine operation procedures.

In this hands-on position, Maintenance Mechanic involves i nspecting, repairing, and maintaining machinery and mechanical systems through preventive checks, troubleshooting faults, and performing repairs or replacements to ensure operational efficiency and minimize downtime, requiring skills in using hand/power tools, understanding mechanics/hydraulics, and adhering to strict safety protocols. Key duties include routine servicing, diagnosing issues, fabricating parts, maintaining records, and collaborating with teams, often requiring physical stamina in manufacturing or industrial environments . You will operate and fix equipment, maintain a clean work area, and follow all safety and biosecurity guidelines. This is a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and teamwork are key. Responsibilities:

• Maintenance & Inspection : Conduct routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on motors, pumps, valves, and other equipment.
• Repair & Installation : Repair broken components, install new machinery, and perform emergency fixes.
• Troubleshooting : Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using observation, testing, and schematics.
• Documentation : Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
• Safety & Compliance : Adhere to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations .
• Must become familiar with and adhere to all general plant and maintenance mechanic safety policies , within the first 6 months of employment.
• Must have a good work history and attendance record
• Must have a good history of safe work practices
• Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and be on call for plant emergencies as they arise.
• Must be able to work at heights of 40 to 60 feet.
• Must pass M-4 maintenance test with a score of 80% or higher
• Must possess basic mechanical abilities
• Must be able to learn the basic day to day functi ons of maintenance mechanic within a 45 day trial period
• Will work with maintenance mechanic operators and learn all safety and machine operation procedures
• Must do the required paperwork involve with the ongoing mechanical integrity of the ammonia refrigeration system
• Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral.
• Will perform all o ther duties as directed by Maintenance Management.
• Must obey all USDA, HACCP, plant, and safety rules & regulations.
• Must be directly involved with process safety management and will aid in company compliance with all government regulations concerning maintenance .
• Must have or purchase and maintain all tools required to work in this position.
• Must communicate to Refrigeration management any situation or issues needing to be addressed on a daily basis.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

What You’ll Need :

Required to participate on the Hazmat team, which will require the following

• Must pass Hazwoper training.
• Must pass Confined Space training.
• Must pass pulmonary function and respirator fit test.
• Must pass Hazmat physical.

Must possess and demonstrate the following basic electrical skills:

• How to use a standard volt/ohm meter
• How to read and use an amp probe
• Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics
• Must be able to troubleshoot 110, 220, and 480-volt 3 phase electrical circuits.

Must demonstrate basic welding skills

• Education : High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience : Previous training experience preferred; positive and motivated attitude.
• Skills : Strong communication skills and professional demeanor; a bility to work in hot/cold environments and stand for long periods; e xcellent organizational and time management skills ; f lexible schedule (including weekends as needed) ; i ndependent, confident, and reliable with great attendance.
