Job summary

Hy-Vee in Iowa is seeking a friendly Checker to join our Grocery team. You’ll operate the register, assist customers, and help ensure every visit ends on a great note. You will learn item lookup, bid with courtesy, and help maintain store standards while delivering friendly service.

This hourly role requires night and weekend shifts. No formal education needed—training provided. You’ll stock, handle transactions, and support store promotions while delivering excellent customer service and

Ability to perform basic arithmetic and handle payments accurately.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and work with limited variables.
Ability to work well in a team to deliver great customer experiences.

Responsibilities

Greet customers with a smile and provide friendly service.
Operate the cash register and process payments (cash, card, checks, coupons, food stamps, etc.).
Count back change, issue receipts, and handle refunds when needed.
Ensure compliance with WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, and lottery guidelines.
Bag merchandise and assist with drive-up and carry-out services.
Stay knowledgeable on item lookup numbers, department numbers, and sale items.
Stock, rotate, and clean shelves; maintain shelf tags and displays.
Keep the register area clean and report cash discrepancies.
Communicate clearly with customers and staff; assist with promotions.
