Job summary

Hy-Vee Inc. is seeking a Checker in our Grocery department. You will operate the register, assist customers throughout the store, and help ensure every visit ends on a great note. This role requires weekend/night shifts and a friendly, reliable team player who cares about customers.

You will greet customers, process a variety of payments, and stay informed on weekly ads and store policies. Training is provided, and the position is part-time with flexible hours.

Qualifications

• No education or experience requirements; we will provide all the training you need to succeed.
• Ability to operate the cash register and handle diverse payment types.
• Knowledge of store policies and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Operate the cash register accurately, scanning products and processing all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, and other methods.
• Count back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets.
• Stock, face, and rotate merchandise, assist courtesy personnel, and support drive-up and carry-out service.
• Stay knowledgeable of item look-up numbers, department numbers, item features, and weekly ad price changes and sale items.
• Keep the register area clean, ensure adequate supplies are available, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer.
