Job description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of State Training School (STS), is seeking a Public Service Supervisor (Night Supervisor) to join our team! This is a full-time position with a Wednesday – Saturday, 9:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. work schedule. We offer opportunities for advancement, growth, and development.

Responsibilities:

1. Supervise and lead staff working the overnight shift.
2. Schedule night staff shifts to ensure campus security.
3. Assess coverage needs and approve/disapprove staff leave requests.
4. Transport students and maintain campus security using state vehicle.
5. Gather information and prepare daily reports on student population.
6. Evaluate employee performance and write performance evaluations.
7. Operate facility switchboard as needed.
8. Dispense medication accurately when required.
9. Visit living units regularly to ensure security and address staff questions.
10. Understand and follow administrative rules and policies related to discipline and time off.
11. Participate in physical restraint procedures when necessary.

Additional Information:

Applicants must meet one of the following minimum requirements:

1. High school diploma or GED and four years of relevant full-time work experience.
2. High school diploma or GED, one year of relevant experience, and a total of three years of education and experience, where college coursework (30 semester hours per year) counts as experience. Completion of the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent.
