Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Unit Coordinator for the Emergency Department Short Stay Unit to support patient flow and service excellence. You will perform clerical, reception, and customer service duties, utilizing EPIC and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The role emphasizes accurate record-keeping, scheduling, and collaboration with billing to ensure proper patient charges. A high school diploma and 1–3 years of healthcare experience are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree preferred.
• 1-3 years healthcare or clerical experience required.
• Ability to coordinate and work as a team member with various disciplines and departments.
• Able to communicate effectively with internal and/or external customers.
• Able to work with others to accomplish tasks and show flexibility.
• Ability to prioritize and manage tasks independently.
• Ability to handle figures and monetary values.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic office equipment handling.

Responsibilities

• Assemble/maintain patient records and obtain reports for departmental operations.
• Greet and assist visitors politely.
• Use clinical and patient information systems to support patient care.
• Coordinate department communications and screen telephone calls.
• Assist in orientation of new administrative staff.
• Maintain supplies, equipment, and troubleshoot office devices.
• Schedule with Shift Wizard System and manage timecards/payroll in Kronos.
• Demonstrate professional business etiquette.
• Relay patient and health care requests within the unit.
• Respond to patient/family needs according to age and characteristics.
• Monitor patient call bell system and respond to requests.
• Coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers with other departments.
• Update bed placements in Enterprise Visibility (HEV).
• Enter patient charges in Soarian Financials and coordinate with billing.
