Job summary

Tier4 Group is seeking a Field Engineer/Structured Cabling Technician to support a federal infrastructure refresh in Washington, DC. The role involves installing and maintaining Cat6 copper and fiber, reading telecom drawings, and ensuring security compliance in mission-critical environments.

Candidates must have DoD Top Secret clearance or be clearable US citizens, with at least 2 years in telecom infrastructure and hands-on experience with structured cabling in federal settings.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Top Secret clearance or clearable; US citizen.
• Minimum 2 years experience with telecommunications infrastructure.
• Experience installing and supporting structured cabling in enterprise or federal environments.
• Familiar with Cat6 copper and fiber optic installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Familiar with telecom rooms, MDFs, and IDFs.
• Familiar with fiber optic testing equipment and cable certification tools.
• Ability to analyze and create telecom drawings and installation documentation.
• Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding environments.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot Cat6 copper and fiber optic cabling per standards.
• Install patch panels, fiber enclosures, racks, trays, and related hardware.
• Work in confined spaces and support campus-wide cabling refresh and modernization.
• Read telecom drawings, floor plans, wiring schematics, and installation documentation.
• Route, dress, bundle, and label cables per customer standards.
• Support cutovers, migrations, and MDF/IDF upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with federal, security, and safety requirements.
• Maintain installation documentation and inventory tracking.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, and government personnel to support timelines.
