Job summary

Whirlwind Steel is seeking a skilled structural welder to join our manufacturing team in Georgia. You will weld parts using FCAW, ensuring welds meet AWS D1.1 visual and ultrasonic test requirements, and pass the Complete Joint Penetration weld standards.

Responsibilities include interpreting shop drawings, adjusting welding parameters, welding in multiple positions, inspecting beads, and adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a current welding certification.
• Minimum 2 years welding experience.
• Experience operating an overhead crane.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret welding detail drawings.
• Must be able to apply an acceptable weld to pass visual test in accordance with AWS D1.1.
• Must be able to apply an acceptable Complete Joint Penetration weld to pass Ultrasonic test in accordance with AWS D1.1.
• Familiarity with welding equipment and tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality products.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and willingness to follow them rigorously.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret shop details to determine specific welding requirements.
• Adjust the welding unit to obtain amperage and voltage as specified by Whirlwind Standard.
• Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining arc length and speed for proper fusion.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using FCAW.
• Visually examine welds for bead size and specs.
• Identify finished parts using Welder ID numbers.
• Back gouge to ensure complete penetration welds pass ultrasonic tests.
• Weld to pass visual inspections per AWS D1.1.
• Adhere to safety protocols and report safety issues.
• Collaborate with team members and QC to ensure smooth production.
• Strive to maximize productivity and meet daily goals.
