Job summary

University of California San Diego Health is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician II/III for nights at the Hillcrest worksite. The role processes surgical instrumentation per regulatory standards, supports Operating Room staff, and ensures availability and proper processing of tools for patient care.

The position may be filled at Tech II or Tech III based on experience and SPD certification. The role requires SPD-related coursework, BART or BLS, and the ability to work varied hours.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of recent sterile processing experience in an acute care hospital or similar healthcare setting; three (3) years for Tech III.
• Completion of an SPD course (required for Tech III).
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.
• Knowledge of decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, storage and distribution practices for surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and support time-sensitive surgical needs.

Responsibilities

• Decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage and distribution of surgical instrumentation and medical equipment.
• Provide expertise in instrument processing and urgent case preparation for Operating Room staff.
• Maintain required documentation and support inventory management activities.
• Assist with procurement and organization of instrumentation and equipment.
