International Motors, LLC is seeking a Safety Engineer for its Texas operations on the 2nd shift. The role focuses on establishing a strong safety culture, hands-on floor presence, and partnering with production, engineering, and maintenance to reduce risks.

Ideal candidates are proactive, independent, and capable of supporting a growing startup-like environment requiring effective communication, training delivery, and rigorous adherence to OSHA and local safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 1+ year safety experience, or
• Master's degree with no experience, or
• 3+ years safety experience in manufacturing/start-up environments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct floor safety inspections and hazard assessments.
• Identify unsafe conditions and drive corrective actions.
• Investigate incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
• Support OSHA and local safety requirements compliance.
• Develop and deliver safety trainings and toolbox talks.
• Support LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, HazCom, ergonomics and electrical safety.
• Perform Job Hazard Analyses and risk assessments for processes.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Operations during start-ups and changes.
• Maintain safety records, inspections, corrective actions, and metrics.
• Coach supervisors on safe work practices and accountability.

Job description

Position Overview

The Safety Engineer will support a fast-paced manufacturing/start-up environment by helping establish and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively identifying and reducing workplace risks. This position will have a strong presence on the production floor and work closely with employees, supervisors, engineering, maintenance, and operations leadership.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working independently while supporting a growing second-shift operation.

Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday through Thursday: 5:30 PM - 4:00 AM

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine floor inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
• Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and drive corrective actions to completion.
• Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses and perform root-cause analysis.
• Support compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.
• Develop and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and employee communications.
• Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, PPE, hazard communication, ergonomics, electrical safety, and emergency response programs.
• Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs/JSA) and risk assessments for new and existing processes.
• Partner with Engineering and Operations during equipment installation, process changes, and new-product/start-up activities.
• Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, corrective-action tracking, and safety metrics.
• Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices and help strengthen accountability for safety.
• Serve as the primary safety resource for second-shift operations.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of environmental health, fire safety or safety experience

OR

• Master's degree and no experience

OR

• At least 3 years of environmental health, fire safety or safety experience

Additional Requirements

Desired Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
• 3-5+ years of safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, automotive, warehousing, or a start-up environment.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) requirements.
• Experience with LOTO, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, PPE, HazCom, ergonomics, fall protection, and electrical safety.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analysis (RCA).
• Ability to recognize hazards and make practical, risk-based recommendations.
• Strong communication and coaching skills with both hourly employees and management.
• Comfortable challenging unsafe practices and holding employees and leaders accountable professionally.
• Able to work independently with limited safety leadership present on second shift.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.
• Experience in anew facility, manufacturing launch, equipment installation, or rapidly changing start-up environment is highly desirable.
