Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections seeks a Registered Nurse Supervisor for the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women on the night shift. You will oversee nursing staff, coordinate care with physicians, dentists, psychologists, and security, and provide direct nursing tasks and emergency interventions as needed.

The role requires an accredited nursing program credential, Virginia RN license or compact, and strong supervisory and clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia RN license (or multi-state compact license).
• Knowledge of nursing and supervisory principles and practices.
• Knowledge of medication usage, actions, and side effects.
• Working knowledge of professional nursing principles and practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate with others.
• Ability to perform full physical assessments.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversee work of LPNs and other medical staff.
• Direct a staff of nurses and support services in coordination with physicians and security staff to ensure appropriate medical care.
• Provide relief for Health Authority at the site.
• Provide skilled nursing care to inmates and assess health problems.
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications and initiate emergency interventions.
• Develop and implement medical/nursing guidelines and maintain medical records.
• Provide training to staff and education to inmates on healthy lifestyles.
