Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital, part of Inova Health System, seeks a Registered Nurse to advance in the Oncology unit. This part-time night-shift role (7pm–7am) offers 12-hour shifts focused on comprehensive cancer care, including chemo administration and support for nephrostomy care, cardiac/respiratory needs.

Emphasis on patient/family education and teamwork. Ideal candidates hold a BSN (ADN accepted with BSN within 5 years), at least 1 year RN experience, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• BSN required; ADN acceptable if BSN completed within 5 years.
• Minimum 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
• BLS from American Heart Association (AHA).
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or active multi-state RN license.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing interrelationships.
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends to achieve best practice.
• Conducts all patient care in a patient- and family-centered manner throughout the continuum of care.
• Advocates for patients' rights and provides counsel while resolving issues.
• Coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
• Documents all patient care activities per documentation standards and assists team with documentation.
• Evaluates processes to achieve outcomes, anticipates variances, and updates plans of care.
• Makes clinical decisions based on experience and patient data to promote team clinical development.
• Communicates effectively and cooperatively with other clinical disciplines.
• Assists staff to assess patients' learning needs and outcomes of patient education.
• Provides direction and guidance as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor, coordinating unit activities.
• Utilizes standards and pathways for care delivery, synthesizing care delivery from patient/family communication and team collaboration.
• Maintains a continuing education record with at least six hours of formal contact time.
• Evaluates clinical and quality outcomes and contributes to performance improvement.
