Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
• Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas.
• Current BLS certification.
• Accepts assignment to any behavioral health unit.
• CPI training within 30 days of hire date.
• Computer skills required to be effective on assigned units.
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
• Prefer hospital experience.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Ensures care is delivered in accordance with Nurse Practice Act and ANA Standards.
• Performs nursing care using sound judgment.
• Implements physician orders in a safe and accurate manner.
• Assists with admitting, discharging and transferring patients.
• Transcribes and implements new physician orders.
• Adapts to unit needs with flexibility and adaptability.
• Maintains detailed and accurate records of nursing actions.
• Provides education and emotional support for patients and significant others.
• Makes rounds on assigned patients and prioritizes needs.
• Maintains safe and clean environment for patients and co-workers.
• Provides and receives reports at shift changes.
• Administers medication and therapies within the scope of safe nursing practice.
• Forms and implements patient care plans; communicates with supervisor when needed.
• Reports clinical limitations or need for assistance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Adheres to Board of Nurse Examiners rules and hospital policies.
• Informs charge nurse of anticipated/actual issues.
• Remains current with policies and procedures.
• Directs non-licensed staff in patient care delivery.
• Anticipates problems and intervenes to offset impact.
• Plans time schedule with peers to provide coverage.
• Guides staff to support hospital mission and teamwork.
• Ensures distribution and delivery of equipment/supplies.
