Job Details

Job Title: Night Shift Refrigeration Maintenance Technician

Days: Sunday - Wednesday (Four 12-Hour shifts)

Hours: 4:45pm to 5am

Pay Rate: $27 to $36 per hour

Job Description

Ammonia refrigeration technician; responsibilities include the operation, inspection, and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration and freezer equipment, such as pumps, condensers, compressors, evaporators, valves, purgers, hot room conveyors, and other utility system components. Services, repairs, and rebuilds valves and pumps. Performs major and minor repairs on Utility Equipment (Ammonia Refrigeration, HVAC, Air Compressors, Fire Retention Systems and Cooling Towers). Other responsibilities as required. An Ammonia Refrigeration Operator performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical repair, and other tasks to keep Ammonia refrigeration systems in operational condition to meet production, refrigeration, storage, and shipping needs. Will have other tasks including upkeep and maintenance of the freezer, equipment, and building structure. Perform rounds with periodic checks of the equipment and maintain the system; understand operational parameters and what steps to take if equipment operates outside set parameters.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain ammonia refrigeration and freezer equipment (pumps, condensers, compressors, evaporators, valves, purgers, etc.).
  • Service, repair, and rebuild valves and pumps. Perform major and minor repairs on utility equipment (Ammonia Refrigeration, HVAC, Air Compressors, Fire Retention Systems, and Cooling Towers).
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical repair to keep systems in operational condition.
  • Maintain upkeep of freezer, equipment, and building structure.
  • Perform rounds and monitor equipment; respond to deviations from operating parameters.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical information to support operations.
  • Operate CMMS system and learn all functions of the system.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience with ammonia systems.
  • Ammonia Operator I or equivalent certification.
  • Safety orientation at all times.
  • Basic skills to maintain upkeep of building and support equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with the Frick CMMS system or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform ammonia pump-out safely; check oil levels in compressors and add as needed.
  • Ability to operate forklift equipment.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 60 feet indoors and 70 feet on rooftops.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work with the team on other projects; communicates work order progress.
  • Knowledge of laws and safety related to equipment; working with voltages up to 480V 3-phase.
  • Understanding of chemical treatment programs; reading and interpreting diagrams.
  • Willingness to pursue further education in the ammonia field.
  • Basic computer skills to use CMMS system.
Physical Requirements
  • Wear proper PPE at all times, including steel-toe or composite-toe EH-rated shoes.
  • Work in a freezer environment; ability to walk, stand, and lift items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities (bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc.).
  • Noise level is typically low to moderate.
